cut it up
Back in the day when I would kick it with Turbo, Ozone and Kelly, I thought this guy was so cool!
I still think that he’s cool. Or rather, I still think he was cool back then. Now, I’m not so sure.
I got a call from the Apple store yesterday. They said my hard drive failed and needed to be replaced. I found that hard to believe, considering it seemed to be working just fine before my comp died, but I wasn’t about to argue with the guy because there were some things about that drive that I didn’t want to come to light. Like the fact that I replaced that drive with a 400 GB drive back in January, completely voiding my already expired warranty. Of course, when my iMac died, I put its stock 160 GB drive back in, but since the comp was dead, I never got a chance to make sure it was fully functioning. Anyway, when the Apple tech called I asked them how much it was going to cost to have it replaced. At first he was under the impression that my repairs were being covered by the warranty, but when I advised him otherwise, he put me on hold for a few moments, and then came back on and told me they would cover it. Cool, it looks like I’m getting a new 160 GB drive too! I’m pretty sure that the old drive worked just fine because I was using it as an external drive for the past 6 months without issue. I plan on keeping the new drive in my iMac and using the 400 GB drive as an external. The last thing I need is for my power supply/iMac to die again. That computer will be 2 years old in a couple months, and if anything happens then, I’ll be SOL.
Lastly, here is something you might want to keep an eye on. It’s being done by some locals, and their blog is here.

1. As a long-time PC user (started on a 286, then got a new computer amoslt every year used a 386, a 486, a Pentium, a Pentium III, a Pentium IV, and now using a Pentium D), and also more recent Mac user (I’ve used really old ones as well as newer ones including the iMac G3 and G4), I have found Macs to be excellent. Not just good or better than a PC, but the best computer out there. They’re the best system possible, especially for your kind of stuff like Internet and Photos.2. Macs are much easier than PCs. If a non-computer user asked me which I’d recommend, it would be a Mac because they are easy to get used to and to learn. Since you already are using a computer, it won’t be hard to switch. You can transfer any old files over, and the manuals and help included with a Mac are very good. And the user base on the net is very big, so if you have any questions you should get answers very fast. And while Macs *are* different than PCs, they are different in a good way.3. I’ve used iMac G3s, and I wouldn’t recommend them for a first time Apple user. It won’t really help you get to know how to use a Mac, since the new Mac OS X is much easier and better than the old OS the G3 runs. It would be like trying out a Windows 3.1 computer to see if you want to buy one that runs XP or Vista it is outdated and would probably hurt your experience more than help it (unless you’re a geek like me who likes to use old systems just to see what they were like).4. Eh no.Personal use of many PCs and Macs. I’ve built my own systems before too.

and Kent, if you ever make it to Greenville, you let me know!I think you would love our downtown area; such a great balance of new and old, buildings and gardens plus a great listening room near where I saw Over the Rhine — incredible little place.
